Ukrainian faktcheking project StopFake has joined the global network of First Draft partners, which works to improve the quality of online journalism, alongside organisations like Google News Lab, Storyful and AFP.
The network was founded in September 2016 and brought together influential media companies including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, the New York Times, BuzzFeed News, the Washington Post and CNN. Partners work together to tackle common issues, including ways to streamline the verification process, improve the experience of eyewitnesses and increase news literacy amongst social media users.
Initiatives planned by the First Draft Partner Network for the coming months include a train the trainer programme, the launch of a collaborative verification platform, and the creation of a voluntary code of verification practice.
In addition, this month StopFake in collaboration with Prague Organization for International Affairs (AMO) started publishing Czech version of the project, and on 24 October German edition has been launched.
