Pravda.ru accused Swedish company IKEA of supporting the armed forces of Ukraine with sleeping bags, waterproof flashlights, furniture and everyday items. The news site referred to «a National Guard centurion Andrei Petrushchak» and an anonymous «source in IKEA», stating that several days ago a delivery of munitions, sleeping bags, waterproof flashlights, furniture and everyday items to the «Right Sector» and the armed forces of Ukraine took place in Donetsk Oblast. Also the Swedish company allegedly provided a large amount of diesel fuel.

This information was further spread by other websites and social networks users. Yet it turned out to be untrue.

«The rumours of IKEA company’s support of Ukrainian forces in action in East Ukraine are a lie. We have neither supported nor planned to support the armed conflict, as it is against our corporate policy,» — said IKEA spokeswoman Ylva Magnusson.

She also added that IKEA considers the current situation as a provocation aimed at damaging the reputation of IKEA’s business in Russia. IKEA is working with news agencies to publish the refutation and will seek to defend its rights in court; it will further sue the agencies that continue to publish the false information that damages the company’s reputation.
