The cover of the newspaper has been edited. Originally, the first page contained news about the death of a Scottish politician.
A photo of the cover of the Scottish newspaper The National with the headline «Zelensky Provokes a Nuclear Crisis» on the front page is being circulated by pro-Russian sources.
«Why does Zelensky’s victory plan put the entire world’s nuclear security at risk?» — the headline asks.
However, in reality, this source did not publish such an article, and the cover of the newspaper was edited. In its official X (Twitter) account, the media published what the October 18 issue of The National looked like: the front page did not contain any news about Volodymyr Zelensky and Ukraine in general. Instead, it was dedicated to former Scottish Premier Alex Salmond, who died of a heart attack on October 12.
The topic of nuclear weapons is once again being actively discussed in relation to Volodymyr Zelenskyi’s victory plan and his statement that either nuclear weapons (which the state renounced in 1996) or NATO membership could be a security guarantee for Ukraine. After a series of speculations in the media, the president clarified that Ukraine does not develop or plan to restore nuclear weapons — his words were only an argument in favor of Ukraine joining NATO. However, Putin has already accused Ukraine of provocations despite the fact that it is Russia that regularly uses nuclear blackmail as a foreign policy tool.We have already refuted another Russian disinformation narrative on this topic in the article Fake: Ukraine Has No Victory Plan.
