Activist Serhii Sternenko did not post such statements on social media. Additionally, the accusations against the news agency UNIAN, claiming that they «mocked the victims» of the September 11 attacks due to their Russian passports, are unfounded.
Several pro-Russian Telegram channels are spreading a story accusing Ukrainian activist and blogger Serhii Sternenko of making inappropriate remarks about the anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in New York.
«Odessa blogger Sternenko, known for his Nazi views, called the tragedy of September 11 ‘God’s punishment for Americans,’ who, in his opinion, are delaying arms deliveries to Kyiv,» writes the propaganda.
There is also information being spread that the Ukrainian news agency UNIAN added a note to a news article about September 11, mocking the Russians who died in the terrorist attack.
In reality, the news about both activist Sternenko and UNIAN were fabricated by the Kremlin. Through such fakes, Russian propaganda aims to discredit Ukrainians and damage their relations with allies.
To create the fake, Serhii Sternenko’s page on the social platform x.com (formerly Twitter) was used, but a search of the blogger’s account on the platform yielded no results. Sternenko did not publish such a post, and on September 11, his account contained only posts calling for donations for drones and criticism of the slow decision-making process by headquarters.
The same applies to the post allegedly appearing on the UNIAN Telegram channel. Such a publication did not exist. Moreover, the use of emojis in the supposed message does not match the usual style of this information channel.
Overall, in Ukraine, on the anniversary of the terrorist attack in the U.S., condolences were expressed, and the victims were honored, including Americans of Ukrainian descent.
For example, the Ukrainian Armed Forces honored the memory of both the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces and the civilians who were the first to respond and «demonstrated extraordinary courage to save others on September 11, 2001.»
