The Russian newspaper “Komsomolskaya Pravda” reported that the Czech Parliament refused to consider the capture of Crimea by Russia as annexation.
“The Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament has refused to recognize the reunification of the Crimea with Russia as “annexation” and is also opposed to economic sanctions,” – says the newspaper.
Nevertheless , it is a lie. On the official website of the Czech embassy in Ukraine, this country has twice expressed its disagreement with the actions of Russia on the peninsula. The first report was published on March 19, 2014 and stated the official position of Foreign Ministry of the country:
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemns the steps of the Russian Federation that lead to the annexation of the Ukrainian Autonomous Republic of Crimea to the Russian Federation, and considers Russia’s actions as an unprecedented violation of international norms and obligations by the Russian Federation, as well as a threat to peaceful coexistence of peoples in Europe.”
The second message relates to the parliament’s decision, mentioned by “Komsomolskaya Pravda”:
” The Chamber of Deputies rejected the forcible annexation of the territory of Ukraine – Crimea by the Russian Federation, considering these actions as a violation of international law.”
Regarding media reports that the Czech parliament has refused to support economic sanctions against Russia, the Czech deputies did not take such a decision. The embassy said “the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic supports the government in talks on joint actions in the framework of the EU, NATO and other international organizations in dealing with the situation in Ukraine.”
