The Azov brigade commander of the Ukrainian National Guard Denys Prokopenko with a call name Redys was not captured again. After the false information spread, the Azov press service published his photo and dedicated it to the National Ukrainian Flag Day.
Kremlin media and social media users began to spread false information that the Azov brigade commander Denys Prokopenko (Redys), who returned to Ukraine from Turkey after being extracted from Russian captivity, was allegedly captured again. On this information, users cite Kremlin propagandist Semyon Pegov.
“Today, near the village of Mala Tavolzhanka, during the offensive of our positions, the Azov regiment commander Denys Prokopenko, was captured again. The second time the killer who was giving disastrous orders was not lucky,” – users write.
After the information spread, StopFake decided to check whether Denys Prokopenko was really captured again. This turned out to be untrue.
Firstly, the Kremlin so-called military correspondent Semen Pegov, who is cited by users and the media, wrote nothing about the capture of the Azov commander in his Telegram channel. Secondly, there is no settlement called Mala Tavolzhanka in Ukraine. The only similar-sounding settlement near the hostilities is the village Tavilzhanka in the Kupyan district of the Kharkiv region.
Thirdly, media and Internet users began to report about the alleged capture of Denys Prokopenko on August 18-19. Yet on August 23, a fresh photo with Prokopenko was posted on the official Azov social media pages. It was dedicated to the National Ukrainian Flag Day.
StopFake also contacted the press service of the Ukrainian National Guard and Azov, but has not yet received a response from them.
Earlier, StopFake refuted the information that the Azov regiment allegedly attacked a humanitarian convoy.
