This text was added to the tournament recording in the video editor. The match itself was held back in 2021
In the Russian segment of social networks and Telegram channels, a video of an American bowling tournament, where the announcement «Stop Funding Ukraine» was allegedly broadcast, is being circulated. Propagandists claim that this ad was commissioned by Republicans who are opposed to the US continuing to provide financial and military support to Ukraine. This allegedly proves that in the West and in the United States in particular, exhaustion from the war in Ukraine is on the rise.
However, the video circulating online is a fake created using a video editor. We managed to find a recording of the broadcast of the match between Sam Cooley and Kyle Troup, a fragment of which is published by propagandists. At the 1:35 mark, you can see that what is actually behind the athlete is an advertisement for the American men’s cosmetics brand Manscaped. Moreover, the tournament took place on May 16, 2021. That is, more than six months before the start of a full-scale war in Ukraine. Therefore, the slogan «Stop Funding Ukraine» could not possibly be on the recording.
The purpose of such fakes is to increase the tension in relations between Ukraine and its Western partners. Recently, StopFake refuted similar misinformation in the article Fake: The Budget of the American Organization for the Search for Missing Children Cut to Aid Ukraine.
