Russia itself has not stopped attacking Ukraine’s energy and civilian infrastructure for a single day – neither after Zelenskyy’s promise to stop such attacks, nor after Putin’s conversation with Donald Trump, during which the Russian leader supposedly ordered a halt to attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities. After the alleged ‘agreement to stop strikes’, Russia continues to launch more than a hundred attack drones into Ukraine every day, targeting energy facilities, among other targets. The most massive attacks after the agreement between Putin and Trump were Russian strikes on the regions of Kropyvnytskyi, Odesa, Zaporizhzhya, Donetsk, Sumy and Kyiv regions.

Social media and Russian websites spread information that it was allegedly Ukraine and Zelenskyy who “spat on the agreement to not carry out strikes” on Russian energy facilities. “Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy broke his promise to the United States by ordering a strike on an energy facility in the village of Kavkazskaya, Krasnodar Region. This was stated by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova at a briefing,” Russian media reported, accusing Ukraine of an alleged unilateral breach of its obligations. At the same time, the official Telegram channel of the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized that “this is another provocation specially prepared by the Kyiv regime aimed at disrupting peace initiatives, including those put forward by the US president. Zelenskyy and the Kyiv regime have once again violated the agreement reached and thus confirmed their absolute lack of negotiating power”. In other words, the Russian side is trying to shift the responsibility for the ongoing bombardment onto Ukraine alone.

In fact, this information is not true. Russia did not stop its attacks on Ukraine’s energy and civilian infrastructure for a single day, neither after Zelenskyy’s promise to stop such attacks, nor after Putin’s conversation with Donald Trump, during which the Russian leader allegedly ordered a halt to attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities.

Thus, on the night of 18-19 March 2025, following a telephone conversation between Donald Trump and Putin, Russia launched another massive attack on Ukraine using missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles. In particular, two Iskander-M ballistic missiles and four S-300 anti-aircraft guided missiles were launched, as well as 145 Shahed-type attack drones. As a result of the attack, energy and civilian infrastructure in the Donetsk, Sumy, Odesa, Poltava, Dnipro, Kyiv and Chernihiv regions were damaged. In addition, on the night of 19/20 March 2025, immediately before the Russian Foreign Ministry’s statements about Ukraine’s ‘non-negotiability’, Russia demonstrated its full negotiability by massively shelling the Ukrainian city of Kropyvnytsky, the most intense attack on the city since the beginning of the full-scale war. More than 30 explosions damaged or destroyed 70 private homes and 17 apartment blocks. The attack also injured 14 civilians, including 7 children. Two of the victims are in serious condition. In total, on the night of 20 March 2025, Russia attacked Ukraine with 171 Shahed-type attack drones and various types of imitation drones. According to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the Kirovohrad, Sumy and Donetsk regions were affected by the Russian shelling.

In addition, on the night of 21 March 2025, the Russian army launched a massive attack on Odesa and Zaporizhzhya using attack drones. In Odesa, energy and civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged, including a residential tower block, a shopping centre and shops. The Novohorodske (Tairovske) cemetery in Odesa was also hit, completely destroying 30 graves. Three people were injured in the attack, including a minor girl. At the same time, the Russian Federation attacked settlements in the Zaporizhzhya district with guided bombs. As a result, 5 people were injured, including a child. In total, on the night of 21 March, Russian troops attacked Ukraine with 214 Shahed-type attack drones and other types of drones.

Such massive drone attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure take place every night, despite any agreements between Trump and Putin. At the same time, Russia traditionally keeps silent about its war crimes against civilians and tries to put the blame for the ceasefire on Kyiv, although it is Russia that is the aggressor in this war and Ukraine is only defending its right to sovereignty. Thus, contrary to its loud propaganda statements, Russia is once again breaking its own promises and blaming the victim of its aggression.
