On June 6th, a story appeared on the portal Rusvesna (English: Russian Spring); it said that a photo had spread across blogs and social networks, showing a Ukrainian [man] supposedly eating the arm of a Russian.
This news is a double fake: first of all, there is no such photo in Right Sector’s or EuroMaidan’s blogs, group pages, etc, or those of other groups associated with the events of the last half-a-year. The article itself contains no reference to a source – there is no indication which blog or group page this photo supposedly came from. Social networks have, meanwhile, seen the spread of this photo off of the RusVesna portal; this is evidenced by the “RusVesna.su” logo in the bottom left-hand corner of the image.
Second of all, this is a photo of the filming of a Russian 2008 science-fiction movie: “We’re from the Future”. The shot can be found in an album of user Maxim Mak, who worked as an artistic prop maker on the movie set of “We’re from the Future”.
The fact that the arm is a prop, and that the man holding it next to his face is an artistic prop maker, is evidenced by other photos in Maxim’s album. They show Maxim and his colleagues painting body-part props.
“We’re from the Future” is a 2008 sci-fi movie about time travel, directed by Andrei Maliukov. The opening night in Russia and world-wide took place Feb 21, 2008. The film takes place first in present time, then shifts back to the years of the war, to the time of difficult defensive battles of August, 1942. The battle scenes required bloodied props, which can be seen in Maxim Mak’s albums.
